In this 4-week class, we’ll cover the tenets of improv that apply to both long-form and short-form, in the classic Chicago style that highlights groupwork, grounded scene work, and ensemble play. Classic improv isn’t all about the funny bone…it’s about being willing to support your partner, listen to the group, and trust your instincts to discover meaningful moments. Come ready to play, take some chances, and have fun!
Liz Allen is a nationally recognized improv teacher, performer, director, and coach with more than 30 years of experience. A former Training Center Director at iO Chicago, Liz won its Coach of the Year Award three years in a row. The award was later renamed the Liz Allen Excellence in Teaching Award in her honor. She performed long-form improv at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, co-wrote the book Improvising Better, and coached the improv ensemble featured in Mike Birbiglia’s film Don’t Think Twice. Liz has taught everyone from beginning improvisers to seasoned performers and business professionals, and she looks forward to sharing her experience with The Skokie community.
